Theoretical Contributions and Literature Analysis in Land Science

Research Question:

This research theme addresses the development, evolution, and theoretical underpinnings of land use science, particularly focusing on the role that this discipline plays in guiding sustainable land use planning and policy. It seeks to answer: “How has land use science influenced modern land use planning and conservation strategies, and what are the future directions and challenges for this field?”

My Work:

My research synthesizes extensive literature reviews and theoretical analyses to trace the advancements in land use science over the past three decades. Through a critical examination of the literature, I aim to identify key theoretical contributions, methodological advancements, and the practical implications of these studies for land use planning. My work highlights the evolution of land use concepts from purely agricultural applications to complex urban and rural integrations, focusing on sustainability, policy adaptations, and spatial planning.

Research Methods:

1. Literature Review and Synthesis: Employing comprehensive literature reviews to document the historical development and significant achievements in land use science, focusing on how the discipline has responded to changing societal needs and technological advances.

2. Theoretical Analysis: Analyzing the theoretical frameworks and methodological innovations in land use science, assessing their impact on the practical aspects of land planning and policy-making. This includes exploring the integration of ecological, economic, and social factors in land use strategies.

3. Comparative and Evolutionary Study: Conducting comparative studies of the theoretical underpinnings and practical applications of land use planning in different regions, focusing on the distinction between Chinese and global perspectives on land use and conservation.

4. Policy Impact Assessment: Evaluating the influence of land use science on policy choices, particularly in housing security and urban development, to understand the dynamic between policy formulation and academic research.
